2. Install the puller on the spring, secure the strut assembly in a vice.
3. Compress the spring until the upper spring retainer is released, remove the nut and gasket from the top of the piston.
4. Remove the support plate, with the strut bearing, upper spring retainer, protective ring and damper ring.
5. Remove the spring, boot and cover, then the shock absorber.
6. Unscrew and remove the screw cap that secures the shock absorber to the suspension strut, remove the shock absorber.
7. Check the condition of the shock absorber. Clamp the shock absorber vertically and check the action by pulling the piston rod all the way out, then pushing it all the way in by hand several times. There should be resistance, and the movement should be smooth and even throughout the stroke. If the shock absorber has not been used for a long time, it should be pumped up and down for a while.
8. If the shock absorber has excessive oil leakage, the rebound will be ineffective, but if the leakage is small, the shock absorber can be reinstalled.
9. Before installing the shock absorber, clean the hole in the suspension strut so that the shock absorber fits easily.
10. Install the screw cap and tighten it to the torque specified in Specifications.
11. Install the spring and strut in the reverse order. If a new damping ring is installed, its thickness should be equal to the thickness of the old one (according to the marks in Fig. 10.4), unless the spring has been changed, otherwise there will be a difference in ride height between the right and left sides of the car.
