1. Do not attempt to disassemble the suspension strut unless a puller is installed on the spring.
2. Install the puller on the spring, secure the rack assembly in a vise.
3. Compress the spring until the top spring retainer is released, remove the nut and gasket from the top of the piston.
4. Remove base plate, with strut bearing, upper spring retainer, protective ring and damping ring.
5. Remove spring, boot and cover, then shock absorber.
6. Unscrew and remove the screw cap that secures the shock absorber to the suspension strut, remove the shock absorber.
7. Check up a condition of the shock-absorber. Clamp the shock absorber vertically and test the action by fully retracting the piston rod, then fully pushing it in by hand several times. Resistance should be felt, and the movement should be smooth and even throughout the entire stroke. If the shock absorber has not been used for a long time, it needs to be pumped up and down for a while.
8. If there is excessive oil leakage from the shock absorber, the rebound will be ineffective, but if the leakage is small, the shock absorber can be reinstalled.
9. Before installing the shock absorber, clean the suspension strut hole so that the shock absorber can be easily inserted.
10. Install the screw cap, tighten it to the torque specified in Specifications.
11. Install the spring and strut in reverse order. If a new damping ring is installed, its thickness must be equal to that of the old one (according to the marks in Fig. 10.4), if the spring has not been changed, otherwise there will be a difference in ride height between the right and left sides of the car.
