Audi A2 (1999-2005)
The Audi A2 is a compact five-door hatchback minivan produced by the German automaker Audi from November 1999 to July 2005. It was first shown at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September 1997 as a concept car called the Audi Al₂. The car's body was made of aluminum, which made it quite economical - fuel consumption was about 3 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km. The drag coefficient was an impressive 0.25-0.28 depending on the configuration. In August 2005, production of this model was completed. A total of more than 170 thousand cars were produced.
At that time, this car's competitors were the Daewoo Tacuma, Ford Fusion, Hyundai Matrix, Kia Venga, Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Nissan Almera Tino, Opel Meriva, Renault Scenic and Toyota Corolla Verso.
The body length was 3826 mm, width 1673 mm, height 1553 mm, wheelbase 2405 mm and the unladen weight was only 895-1030 kg thanks to the use of aluminum. The trunk volume was 390 liters. The rear seat can be partially or completely folded, which increases the volume to 780 liters. After removing the rear seats, the trunk volume increases to 1140 liters.
The engine lineup includes two petrol and two diesel engines. The petrol ones are four-cylinder, 1.4-litre (1390 cm³, AUA/BBY, DOHC, 75 hp) and 1.6 liters (1598 cm³, BAD, DOHC, 110 hp), diesel - three-cylinder turbocharged 1.2 liters (1191 cm³, ANY, OHC, 61 hp) and 1.4 liters (1422 cm³, AMF/BHC/ATL, OHC, 75/90 hp). The gearbox is 5-speed manual, and a 5-speed robotic gearbox was installed on 1.2-liter diesel models. The drive is only on the front wheels.
In 2003, the car was given a facelift, which was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show. In 2004, Audi built the A2H2 hydrogen fuel cell research vehicle, based on the A2.
