Execution order
1. Remove the connecting rod and piston group (cm. subsection 3.1.2.15).
2. Remove the crankshaft oil seal covers with oil seals (see p. 2 of subsection 3.1.2.12) (front oil seal), pp. 1–2 of subsection 3.1.2.12) (rear oil seal).
3. Check the markings on the main bearing caps. If they are not visible, mark the caps with the bearing number.
4. Loosen bolts 9 of the main bearing caps and remove covers 10 with inserts 8 (see Fig. Crankshaft and cylinder block).
5. Remove the crankshaft and take out the liners 13 from the main bearing beds and the thrust half rings 1, having first marked them with the bearing number.
6. Inspect the crankshaft. There should be no chips, nicks, scratches, etc. on the working surfaces. Small scratches can be ground down and then polished. Measure the diameters of the journals of the connecting rod and main bearings. If they are smaller than the nominal ones (main bearing 57.96–57.98 mm, connecting rod 45.96–45.98 mm), regrind them to the repair size.
7. Install the main bearing shells 13 in the bed so that the shell projection enters the bed recess and the oil supply hole in the shell coincides with the hole in the bed. If the shells of bearing No.3 do not have flanges, install thrust half rings 1. Lubricate the shells and half rings with engine oil.
8. Place the crankshaft on the main bearing beds, having previously lubricated the crankshaft journals with engine oil.
9. Install liners 8 and thrust half rings 1 into bearing caps 10 and lubricate with engine oil.
10. Install the covers in place in accordance with the previously made markings, insert bolts 9 into the central bearing cover, tighten and tighten to a torque of 65 N·m (6.5 kgf·m). Check that the crankshaft rotates freely.
11. Install and tighten the remaining bearing caps, working in the direction away from the center bearing. After installing each cap, make sure the crankshaft rotates freely.
12. Check the axial clearance of the crankshaft by inserting a feeler gauge between the crankshaft cheek and the thrust ring of the middle bearing, moving the shaft in the axial direction in one direction and then in the other.
13. Bearing 14 of the primary shaft of the gearbox is inserted into the end of the crankshaft on the flywheel side (see fig. Crankshaft and connecting rod and piston group parts). You can remove the bearing with a wire hook. Press in the new bearing with the inscriptions facing outward, sinking it 1.5 mm from the end of the crankshaft.
14. Install new crankshaft seals.
15. Install the connecting rod and piston group.
