Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Remove the upper bolts connecting the gearbox to the engine. Raise and securely support the car.
Using suitable engine support devices, support the engine and vehicle.
Remove the two upper bolts at the front of the engine. Remove the starter.
Through the starter hole, remove the torque converter mounting bolts to the drive plate and remove the protective plate (cover) of the torque converter.
Press the hoses on the ATF oil radiator and remove the hoses from the radiator.
Remove the speedometer drive cable from the gearbox.
Remove the bolts connecting the inner side of the axle shaft and the gearbox. Hang the axle shafts using wire.
On the left suspension arm, mark the position of the ball joint and remove the joint and support.
Place a container to collect the oil under the gearbox, remove the oil pipe from the pan and drain the liquid.
Remove the exhaust pipe mounting bracket from the gearbox.
Remove the selector cable bracket. On the gearshift lever, remove the selector cable retaining ring and cable.
Remove the "gas" cable bracket from the gearbox (accelerator) and the cable itself from the drive lever.
Remove the center bolt from the transmission mount. Using an engine mount, lift the engine slightly.
Remove the throttle cable bracket bolts and bracket.
Support the gearbox and lift it slightly. Remove the lower gearbox mounting bolts on the engine.
Separate the engine from the gearbox and lower the gearbox. Support the torque converter.
Installation
When installing the transmission, the torque converter may slip off the one-way clutch support and the oil pump shaft may come off the pump. This may cause damage when tightening the transmission bolts to the engine. Make sure the converter is correctly positioned before installing the bolts.
Tighten:
- gearbox mounting bolts on the engine with a torque of 56 Nm
- additional frame mounting bolts - torque 71 Nm
- central gearbox mounting bolt - torque 40 Nm.
Install the torque converter mounting bolts on the drive plate with a torque of 3 Nm. Install the cover plate.
Install the axle shaft mounting bolts on the gearbox and tighten them to a torque of 45 Nm.
Connect the ball joint to the suspension arm and tighten the bolts to 65 Nm.
Install the exhaust system. Tighten all clamps only after making sure that all parts are positioned correctly (this is done to reduce vibrations).
Connect the hoses to the oil radiator. Install the oil filler tube and fill the gearbox with fluid.
Connect and adjust the selector cable if necessary. Connect and adjust the throttle levers and align the engine mounts to the gearbox if necessary.
