The choice of the transmission program is carried out automatically in accordance with the nature of the driver's work with the accelerator pedal.
When the accelerator pedal is slow or normal, due to the early inclusion of higher gears and the late transition to lower gears, it becomes possible to save fuel.
So-called «sports» the transmission program is selected when the accelerator pedal is controlled sharply enough. When choosing «sports» mode, engine power reserves are fully utilized due to some delay in shifting to a higher gear.
Manual gear selection program (Tiptronic)
Availability of sequential gear shifting mode (system «tiptronic») allows the driver to manually shift gears.

You can switch to the manual shift program both when the vehicle is stationary and when it is moving; for this you need to translate the selector (pic. 1–29) out of position D to the right. When shifting gears, the display shows which gear is currently engaged (pic. 1–30).

When moving the selector forward (+) (pic. 1–31) gears increase sequentially, when moving backwards (–) - decrease successively.
When the car accelerates, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears are automatically engaged shortly before the engine reaches the maximum permissible speed.
If the driver shifts to a lower gear, the transmission control unit will only engage this gear when there is no danger «twisting» engine.
Selector positions
The display in the instrument cluster shows the position number in which the selector is located.
Warning: Never move the selector lever to the position while the vehicle is moving R or R.
P - parking lock
Drive wheels are blocked.
The selector should be set to this position only when the car is completely stopped. Before turning on and off the position P it is necessary to press the lock button on the selector handle. Before turning off this position with the ignition on, additionally press the brake pedal.
R - reverse
It is necessary to turn on only when the car is completely stopped and when the engine is idling. Before moving into position R from positions R or N you need to press the brake pedal and press the lock button in the selector handle.
In position R when the ignition is on, the reversing lights are on.
N - neutral position (idle position)
When removing the selector from position N at a speed of up to 5 km / h, as well as with a stationary car and the ignition on, press the brake pedal and the lock button on the selector handle. It is not necessary to press the lock button when the selector is moved out of position N in position D.
D - long forward movement
Four gears shift automatically from low to higher and vice versa depending on the load on the engine and speed.
Under certain driving conditions, it is advisable to temporarily use one of the positions below.
3 - position for «hilly» road sections
It is recommended when, under certain driving conditions, with the selector lever in position D there is a frequent shift from 3 to 4 gear and vice versa.
To move the selector to this position, press the lock button in the selector handle. Automatically shift up and down 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear depending on engine load and speed, 4th gear is locked. This also improves the efficiency of engine braking in the event of a fuel cut.
2 - position for mountainous sections of the road
Recommended for long climbs and descents. Automatically shifts up and down 1st or 2nd gear depending on engine load and road speed, 3rd and 4th gears remain locked to prevent unnecessary upshifts. This also increases the efficiency of engine braking.
1 - position for mountainous sections of the road with large slopes
This position is recommended when driving on steep uphills and downhills. To enable this position, you must press the lock button on the selector handle. The car only moves in 1st gear, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears are locked to prevent unnecessary upshifts. This achieves the highest possible engine braking efficiency.
Cruise control in position 1 selector cannot be used.
Note: When manually downshifting sequentially, you can shift to positions 3, 2 and 1, however, automatic downshifting only occurs if the maximum permissible engine speed is not exceeded after the downshift.
Forced early downshift device («kick-down»)
The device provides maximum acceleration of the vehicle under the given driving conditions. As soon as the force on the accelerator pedal exceeds a certain threshold value, depending on the speed and speed of movement, a shift to one of the lower gears takes place. Switching to the next, higher gear will follow only when the maximum allowable value of the engine speed is reached.
Warning: On slippery roads, forcibly downshifting may cause the drive wheels to spin.
Recommendations for choosing positions
Engine start
The engine can only be started when the control selector is in position N orR.
Car movement
To move the selector to one of the driving positions with the vehicle stationary and the engine running, press the brake pedal.
When selecting a position when the vehicle is stationary, do not press the accelerator pedal.
If, while the vehicle is moving, the selector is accidentally moved to the position N, before moving the lever to any forward position, release the accelerator pedal and reduce the engine speed to idling.
Warnings: With the engine running, when the selector is in any of the driving positions, it is necessary to hold the car by pressing the brake pedal, since even at idle the transmission of torque to the wheels is not completely interrupted - the car «crawling».
If one of the driving positions is selected while the vehicle is stationary, under no circumstances should the accelerator pedal be depressed (and increase the fuel supply by hand from the engine compartment), otherwise the vehicle will start moving even if the parking brake is applied.
Before carrying out any operations with the engine running, set the selector to the position P and turn on parking brake.
Movement from a place
Choose one of the movement positions (R, D, 3, 2, 1). Wait for the gear to be switched on in the gearbox and the vehicle to start moving (it feels like a slight jerk) and only then press the accelerator pedal.
Stop
At a short stop, for example before a traffic light, there is no need to change to a position N. It is enough to hold the car by pressing the brake pedal. The engine must be running at idle.

Parking
Warnings: To prevent the vehicle from rolling uncontrollably after it has come to a complete stop, always turn on the parking brake. Additionally, put automatic transmission selector into positionR.
On a sloping road, apply the parking brake, and then set the selector to the parking lock position. Thanks to this procedure, the locking mechanism will not be too heavily loaded, and subsequently the selector can be easily removed from this position.
Towing to start the engine
Towing or pushing a vehicle with an automatic transmission can never start the engine.
When the battery is discharged, the battery of another vehicle can be used to start the engine using the connecting wires.
