Warnings: To avoid damaging the electronic unit in the key head, use the key carefully.
Remove the key from the ignition only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop to prevent the steering lock from engaging while driving.
To prevent the vehicle from rolling uncontrollably after it has come to a complete stop, always turn on parking brake.

Fig. 1–33. Key positions in the ignition switch
The key in the ignition switch has the following positions (Fig. 1–33):
Petrol engines
- 1 - ignition off, engine not running;
- 2 - ignition on;
- 3 - engine start.
Diesel engines
- 1 - fuel supply is cut off, engine does not work;
- 2 - engine preheating and position when the vehicle is moving.
During operation of the pre-heater, other electrical appliances - large consumers of current must be switched off. Otherwise, the load on the battery increases significantly;
- 3 - engine start.
For all cars
Position 1
To lock the steering wheel, turn the steering wheel with the ignition key removed until the steering lock pin clicks into place.
Note: If the lights or turn signal are not switched off after the key is removed from the ignition switch, a buzzer-type sound signal will sound when the driver's door is opened.
Position 2
If the key in the ignition does not turn or turns with difficulty to this position, you should slightly rock the steering wheel left and right - the wheel will unlock.
Position 3
In this position, the exterior lighting is off, the parking lights are on, and large power consumers are off.
Before each new attempt to start the engine, it is necessary to return the ignition key to the on position 1. The starter re-engagement interlock device, located in the ignition switch, prevents the starter from engaging when the engine crankshaft is rotating, thereby protecting starter from breakage.
Lock in the ignition switch
On vehicles with an automatic transmission, the key can only be removed after the ignition is turned off when the selector is in position R.
When the ignition key is removed, the selector is locked in this position.
