Access and engine start switch "E415"; 9. Visor for access and engine start permission switch "E415"; 10. Ignition key.Tightening torque for access and engine start enable switch "E415"

Tighten bolt "2" on the access and engine start authorization switch "E415" "POS. 1" with a tightening torque of 3 Nm.
Removal
Switch off the ignition. Set the steering wheel as far back and down as possible, using the full range of adjustment of the steering column position for this. Remove the driver's airbag. Remove the steering wheel. Remove the steering column trim. Unscrew the bolt. Disconnect the electrical plug connection "2".

Before disconnecting plug "3" the mechanic must be free of static electricity; for example, touch the door lock. Disconnect the electrical plug connection "3". To do this, press the safety lock "1" in the "direction of the arrow" until the plug connection "2" is unlocked.

Carefully remove the steering column switch assembly.
Installation
Installation in reverse order: Install steering column trim. Install steering wheel. Install driver's airbag.
Removal used steering column electronics "J527"
The airbag coil spring and the return ring with the slip ring "F138" and the steering angle sensor "G85" are integrated in the steering column control unit "J527". When replacing a used part, select the "Replace" function of the corresponding used part in the "Guided Fault Finding" or "Guided Functions" mode. Select the function or path: Vehicle brand - Engine code -16 Steering wheel electronics J527 - 16 Replacement of used part. Follow the further instructions on the display of the diagnostic tester. Risk of damage to the return ring. The return ring with the slip ring must be removed in the middle position (wheels in straight-ahead position). It is prohibited to turn the return ring with the contact ring when disassembled. Switch off the ignition. Set the steering wheel as far back and down as possible, use the entire adjustment area of the steering column for this. Remove the driver's airbag. Remove the steering wheel. Remove the steering column trim. Unscrew bolt "1". Carefully unlock the "arrow" latch and remove the Airbag coil spring and the return ring with contact ring "F138" "pos. 2" from the steering column switch switch block "3".

Unlock the plug connectors of the Airbag coil spring and the adjusting ring with slip ring "F138" "pos. 3" by placing a screwdriver, as shown in the figure, on the locks "2" and "4" and carefully unlock the plug connectors "1" and "5" "in the direction of arrow A".

Remove the Airbag coil spring and the return ring with the slip ring "F138" on the steering column switch switch block.
Installation
Installation in reverse order: Make sure that all latches and connectors are securely fastened. Install steering column trims. Install steering wheel. Install driver's airbag. Follow further instructions on the diagnostic tester display for the new steering column electronics control unit "J527".
Used steering column electronics pinout "J527"

Used steering column electronics "J527" is part of the entire "steering column switch module" system. It receives its signals, for example, from the steering column switch. Check the steering column electronics control unit "J527" in the "Guided Fault Finding" mode.

Removal the access and engine start switch "E415"
The immobilizer reading coil is attached to the E415 access and start authorization switch and cannot be replaced separately. If the reading coil is faulty, the E415 access and start authorization switch must be replaced. When replacing the access and start authorization switch, no adaptation to the immobilizer is required. The lock in the access and start authorization switch is not mechanically coded. Therefore, after replacing the access and start authorization switch, the keys do not need to be changed (the old keys will work). Switch off the ignition. Remove the dashboard trim on the driver's side. On US vehicles, remove the right-hand safety bar. Remove the central instrument panel deflector. Insert the ignition switch removal pliers "VAS 6339" through the flap covers. Insert the ends of the "VAS 6339" into the holes "arrow A" of the switch "2" for access and engine start authorization "E415". Squeeze the "VAS 6339" together "arrow B", due to which the ends are unclenched and the flap fastening tabs are unlocked. Hold the "VAS 6339" in the pressed position with one hand, and remove the flap "arrow C" with the other hand.

To unlock, use the ignition lock removal pliers "VAS 6339", remove the flap by hand. Unscrew the bolt "4". Remove the access and engine start authorization system switch "E415" "pos. 1" from the front panel forward into the driver's footwell. If necessary, press the central pipe wiring harness to the side to remove it. Disconnect connector "2", to do this, move fuse "3" up "arrow" and press the release lever inward.
