- On a four-cylinder engine, the pump is located on the engine at the front left in the direction of travel and is driven by a V-belt.
- On the five-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, the pump is also located at the front left, but it is driven by a toothed belt. The water pump does not require maintenance during its entire service life. If it leaks or makes unusual sounds, it must be replaced as the pump is beyond repair.
Water pump replacement
You will also need a new gasket (four-cylinder engine; or new o-ring (five-cylinder engine) The water pump, designed for installation on a five-cylinder engine, has a stamped number 5 on the sealing flange and is equipped with an O-ring with a diameter of 5 mm.
The water pump of a four-cylinder engine consists of a so-called bearing housing (1), in which the pump impeller, thermostat housing or pump housing rotates (3) and bottom cover (2) thermostat housing. The arrows indicate the numerous bolts that need to be unscrewed during repairs.
On a four-cylinder engine, first remove the V-belt.
Support the vehicle in front and secure.
Remove toothed belt cover.
Loosen the seven screw connections between the front bearing housing and the water pump housing. The pump impeller is located in the bearing housing.
Replace gasket between bearing housing and water pump housing.
If the entire water pump housing is changed, the gasket between the housing and the cylinder block must be replaced before installation.
Tighten the bearing housing to 1 Nm. Tighten V-belt pulley bolts to 2 Nm.
On five-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, the water pump is removed differently:
First, remove the servo pump together with the V-belt.
Remove toothed belt cover.
Loosen the toothed belt and remove from the water pump toothed belt gear.
Remove rear toothed belt cover. To do this, remove the camshaft timing belt gear.
Loosen the water pump mounting bolts and remove the pump.
Install a new pump with a new O-ring. Lightly tighten the screws.
Install the rear toothed belt cover, put the camshaft gear on the shaft so that the protrusion falls into the recess and tighten the fastening bolt to a torque of 8 Nm.
Put on a toothed belt, adjust the valve timing.
Pull on toothed belt.
Further installation is not difficult. Water pump (1) five-cylinder engine is bolted to the cylinder block in front along with a sealing (3) and running (2) rings.
