The water pump is driven by a toothed belt on the five-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, and by a V-belt on the four-cylinder engine. Therefore, you cannot start the four-cylinder engine with the V-belt removed. You risk serious engine damage. The V-belt is discussed in more detail in the relevant sections below.
