Measuring Belt Wear on a Diesel Engine
Diesel engine
To carry out the work you will need:
- calipers,
- toothed belt and tension roller (if necessary).
Even if the belt is not worn out, it must be replaced every 60,000 km.
Examination
1. Open the 3 fastening clips of the upper part of the belt cover.
2. Move the top cover slightly to the side so that the belt is visible.
3. Measure the belt width with a caliper –a–. If the belt width is less than 22 mm, it means that the belt has reached the wear limit and must be replaced (refer to the accompanying illustration).
4. Replace the timing belt and tension roller, for this refer to the subsection Setting the piston of the first cylinder to TDC.
5. Secure the upper belt cover with staples.
6. If the timing belt has been replaced, attach a sticker with the new belt replacement date to the inside of the hood.
