Four-cylinder petrol engines 1.6, 1.8 l.
1. Remove the top timing belt cover.
2. Mark with a felt-tip pen the direction of its rotation. The motor, when viewed from the side, rotates clockwise.
3. Turn the crankshaft so that the camshaft is in the TDC position of the piston of the first cylinder.
4. There are several ways to turn the engine over.
- 1. Raise and place the vehicle on front side stands. Engage fifth gear, tighten the parking brake. Turn the lifted wheel by hand. Thus, the crankshaft rotates at the same time. An assistant is required to perform this operation.
- 2. Park the vehicle on level ground. Engage fifth gear. Move the vehicle forward or backward.
- 3. Switch manual transmission to neutral position. Apply the parking brake. Turn the crankshaft at the center bolt of the belt pulley.
Warning: Do not turn the engine over the camshaft wheel bolt. This creates an excessive load on the toothed belt.
5. Rotate the engine so that the marking on the camshaft wheel matches the TDC marking on the cylinder head cover. At the same time, the marking of the crankshaft pulley is on the arrow of the bottom cover of the toothed belt. The engine is now in the first cylinder ignition timing position.
