4-cylinder engine
Toothed belt of a 4-cylinder engine

8 Gear wheel of the distribution box
Remove the timing belt cover.
While holding the large bolt on the tensioner pulley, loosen the small nut and turn the tensioner clockwise to tighten the belt or counterclockwise to loosen it.
The belt is tensioned correctly if it can be twisted 90° halfway between the camshaft and intermediate shaft sprockets.

5-cylinder engine
Remove the timing belt cover.
Loosen the water pump adjusting bolts and turn the pump clockwise to tighten the belt or counterclockwise to loosen it. The belt is properly tensioned when it can be turned 90° halfway between the camshaft sprocket and the water pump.
