Removal
Raise the car on a lift.
Remove the lower engine compartment cover.
After removing the V-belt, unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the V-belt tensioner.
Remove the timing belt cover.

Using a spanner, turn the engine crankshaft and set the piston of the 1st cylinder to TDC. In this case, the marks (arrows) should match and the large holes of the camshaft locking cover should be on the same axis.

Lock the crankshaft. To do this:
Unscrew the ignition sensor from the cylinder block and screw a special retainer into its place.
Caution: The tip of the locking pin must fit into the grooves of the crankshaft counterweight.

Loosen the vibration damper mounting bolts without loosening the central bolt.
Remove the lower timing belt cover.
Install the camshaft locking tool.

After loosening the camshaft gear mounting bolts a few turns, remove the camshaft retainer.
Using a puller, remove the two camshaft gears.

Installation
Put on the timing belt in the following sequence:
- Camshaft gears
- Idler pulley
- Crankshaft gear
- Tension roller
Install the camshaft locking tool. The gears on the tapered camshaft tails should sit freely.
Tighten the tension roller clamp bolt so that the roller can rotate.
After installing a 23 mm long spacer sleeve between the timing belt cover and the timing belt, tighten the tension roller fasteners. After the tension roller has been finally secured, the sleeve must be removed.
Check the timing belt tension. The belt should turn 90° between the right camshaft gear and the water pump. If not, loosen the tension roller and re-tension the belt.
Turn the engine crankshaft a few revolutions and check the belt tension again.
After tightening the camshaft gear mounting bolts, remove the retainer.
Unscrew the crankshaft lock and install the ignition sensor in its place.
Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
