Tightening order for cylinder head bolts
Engine removed from vehicle
1. Remove top cover 8 (see fig. Camshaft Drive Parts) camshaft drive.
2. Unscrew the eight nuts and remove the cover 11 of the cylinder head (see fig. Four cylinder engine).
3. Remove intake pipe and exhaust manifold.
4. Turn the crankshaft by the pulley so that the piston of the 1st cylinder is at top dead center (w.m.t.) compression stroke (both valves are closed). In this case, the mark on the crankshaft pulley coincides with the arrow on the lower cover of the camshaft drive, and the mark on the camshaft gear wheel coincides with the mark on the top cover of the camshaft drive (or with the upper plane of the cylinder head cover gasket on the left side of the engine), as it shown on the picture.
5. Finally unscrew the nut 16 and remove the belt tensioner 15.
6. Unscrew the bolt securing the rear cover 10 of the camshaft drive to the cylinder head.
7. Remove bolts 14 securing cylinder head 15. Loosen the bolts uniformly in the reverse order to that shown in fig. Tightening order for cylinder head bolts.
8. Remove the cylinder head.
9. Remove the head gasket 7.
10. Install cylinder head in reverse order. In this case, it is necessary to replace the gasket 7 of the block head and the gasket 9 of the cylinder head cover. Gasket 7 must be installed on the surface of the cylinder block upside down "OBEN-TOP". To tighten bolts of fastening of a head of the block of cylinders in the sequence shown in fig. Tightening order for cylinder head bolts, in three stages: 1st stage - 40 Nm (4.0 kgf·m); 2nd stage - 60 Nm (6.0 kgf·m); 3rd stage - tighten further by half a turn (180°).
Engine on a car
If it is necessary to grind or replace valves, remove carbon deposits from the walls of combustion chambers, replace the cylinder head gasket, etc. you can remove the head of the block without dismantling the engine from the car.
1. Disconnect wire from «negative» battery terminals.
2. Drain the liquid from the cooling system (cm. pp. 1–3 subsections 4.1).
3. Remove alternator (cm. pp. 2–7 of subsection 12.1.3.1).
4.. Unbolt the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold (see clause 1 of subsection 5.1).
5. Remove intake pipe and exhaust manifold.
6. Disconnect the high voltage wires and remove the spark plugs.
7. Disconnect the electrical wires, cables and hoses from the head of the block, having previously marked them.
8. Remove cylinder head (cm. The engine has been removed from the vehicle. 1–9).
