Execution order

1. Position the vehicle over an inspection pit so that the engine is under a hoist or other similar device with a lifting capacity of at least 300 kg.

2. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery, located in the waterproof housing on the right (on vehicles equipped with air conditioning, the battery is located under the rear seat).

3. Remove the hood (see pp. 1–6 of subsection 11.3).

4. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the thermostat housing, remove the plug from the expansion tank and drain the coolant (see pp. 1–3 of subsection 4.1).

5. Loosen the drain plugs in the engine crankcase and gearbox crankcase and drain the oil.

6. Loosen the drain plugs in the engine crankcase and gearbox crankcase and drain the oil.

7. Disconnect the electrical wires from the electric fan switch and from the cooling system fan.

8. Remove the radiator (see paragraphs 3–9 of subsection 4.6).

9. Disconnect the fuel supply and return hoses from the fuel pump (see p. 2 of subsection 6.1.5).

10. Disconnect the wires from the units and components of electrical equipment installed on the engine.

11. Disconnect the vacuum hoses and control cables from the carburetor.

12. Remove the air filter (see paragraphs 1–6 of subsection 6.1.2).

13. On cars with air conditioning, remove the compressor without disconnecting the hoses and secure it to the body with wire.

14. On vehicles with power steering, remove the pump without disconnecting the hoses and secure it to the body with wire.

15. Remove the right engine mount heat shield.

16. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold flange (see p. 1 of subsection 5.1).

17. Slightly loosen the right engine mount bracket mounting nut.

18. Remove the starter (see paragraphs 1–3 of subsection 12.1.4.1).

19. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the gearbox bracket.

20. Remove the lower bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.

21. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the lower part of the clutch housing.

22. Slightly loosen the left engine mount bracket mounting nut.

23. On vehicles with automatic transmission, loosen the torque converter mounting bolts.

24. Place a jack or other suitable support under the gearbox.

25. Loosen the bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.

26. Disconnect the engine ground wire.

27. Check that all hoses and electrical wires are disconnected from the engine.

28. Loosen the nuts securing the left and right engine brackets and lift the engine using a hoist.

29. Remove the engine mount brackets.

30. Remove the engine from the engine compartment. On vehicles with automatic transmission, secure the torque converter in the clutch housing so that it does not fall out.

31. Install the engine in the reverse order. On vehicles with a manual transmission, lubricate the splines of the gearbox input shaft with a thin layer of grease before installing the engine.
