During the running-in period, the following rules must be followed:
- start moving only in first gear; avoid driving at high speeds and with maximum crankshaft rotation frequency. To do this, you need to timely engage the gear corresponding to the speed of movement; avoid driving in difficult road conditions if possible (in deep snow, sand, mud, etc.);
- periodically check and, if necessary, adjust the tension of the auxiliary drive belts (generator, power steering pump, etc.).
It should be remembered that during the running-in period the belts are most intensively stretched; monitor the condition and, if necessary, tighten all the fastening elements of the car. Particular attention should be paid to the fastening of the wheels, steering components, front and rear suspensions and the exhaust pipe of the muffler to the exhaust manifold of the engine.
After a run of 1000 km it is necessary:
- check and, if necessary, adjust the valve clearances on models with engines without hydraulic valve lifters;
- check and, if necessary, adjust the idle speed of the crankshaft and the content of CO and CH in the exhaust gases; replace the oil filter and engine oil.
After a run of 1500 km it is necessary:
- check and tighten all accessible threaded connections if necessary. Pay special attention to the fastenings of the generator, generator pulley, starter, exhaust pipe, radiator, engine mounts, clutch drive, brake drive, gearbox, clutch housing, wheels, suspension parts, steering;
- check and, if necessary, adjust the tension of the auxiliary drive belts, the idle speed of the crankshaft and the content of CO and HC in the exhaust gases;
- check the preload of the front and rear wheel hub bearings, the rear brake pressure regulator, and the front wheel alignment.
