For the period of the first 1000 km run
- Speed no more than 3/4 of the maximum.
- Do not depress the accelerator pedal all the way.
- Avoid high engine speeds.
- Do not tow a trailer.
Between 1000 and 1500 kilometers
- A gradual transition to speeds up to the maximum and to the maximum engine speed is possible.
In the first hours of operation, the engine is characterized by increased internal friction, when compared with the subsequent period, when the rubbing parts run in to each other. The efficiency of the running-in process largely depends on the driving mode for the first 1500 km of run.
After running in, the engine should not be allowed to run at high speeds. The maximum allowable engine speed is the beginning of the red field of the tachometer scale. When the tachometer needle reaches the red field, immediately shift to a higher gear (car with manual gearbox). Extremely high engine speeds are blocked automatically.
On vehicles with a manual gearbox, do not allow the engine speed to drop when the engine starts to erratic. In time, until the uniformity of rotation of the engine shaft is disturbed, switch to a lower gear.
Warning: All engine speed and RPM data refer to the engine warmed up to operating temperature only. Never - neither at idle nor while driving - do not allow a cold engine to run at high speeds.
New tires
- Take extra care with new tires for the first 500 km.
New tires do not initially provide optimal traction and must therefore be run in.
New brake pads
- Remember that new brake pads do not yet provide optimal braking performance for the first 400 km.
New brake linings must first be run in to ensure optimum friction. The resulting slight decrease in braking efficiency is compensated by a corresponding increase in the effort on the brake pedal.
During the break-in period, avoid heavy braking, especially at very high speeds, as well as braking on steep inclines and descents (for example, passes).
