Defective injectors can cause a strong detonation knock in the engine and malfunctions in the bearings. In this case, it is necessary to start the engine at idle speed and loosen the union nuts of the high-pressure fuel lines. If the union nuts are loosened, and the knock in the engine disappears, this indicates that one of the injectors is defective. A defective injector can be detected as follows: the engine is running at fast idle speed. It is necessary to loosen the union nuts of the high-pressure fuel lines. If the union nuts of the fuel lines are loosened, and the engine speed remains constant, this indicates that one of the injectors is defective. The injectors are checked using a pressure gauge (the work is done in the workshop).
The first signs of malfunction in the injectors appear as follows:
- Knocking in one or more cylinders.
- The engine gets very hot.
- Engine power drops.
- Extremely black, strong exhaust.
- High fuel consumption.
Removal
Thoroughly clean the fuel lines with fuel. Disconnect the fuel lines from the pump and injectors. Remove the return lines. Unscrew the injector holders.

Remove the wave washer, heat shield and copper sealing ring.
Clamp the nozzle holder between the jaws of a soft metal vice. Disassemble the nozzle.
Check the injector needle for wear and damage. Clean the injector from carbon deposits with a wooden spatula.
Caution. Never clean the injectors or their needles with wire, a file or sandpaper. Clean each injector separately, avoid mixing up the needles and injectors.
The needle should slide in the nozzle under its own weight. It should move freely.
Installation
Assemble the nozzle and its holder.
Install a new sealing ring into the nozzle hole in the cylinder head.
Install the heat-protective sleeve so that its smaller diameter is on the cylinder head side, i.e. it should face downwards.

Place the next copper sealing ring on the heat-protective sleeve.
Insert a new wave washer into the heat-protective sleeve. The convex side (arrow) should be located on the cylinder head side, i.e. facing downwards.
Screw in the nozzle with the holder and tighten it to 7 Nm, using a special key, which you can make yourself.
