Later models are equipped with a contactless FEI ignition system. This system is similar to the electronic ignition system described above.
It should be noted that later MS engines are equipped with two detonation sensors. The FEI system has a "memory" that contains information about possible malfunctions of the ignition system. This information can be "read" using special diagnostic equipment.
When working with the FEI system, the following safety precautions must be taken:
- it is prohibited to touch the wiring, disconnect and connect it, connect any equipment to the ignition system wiring (including for diagnostics) with the engine running;
- if you need to turn the engine with the starter, disconnect the connector from the ignition switch;
- the starter can be cranked using a charger for no more than 15 seconds at a voltage of no more than 16.5 V;
- the engine may only be washed with the ignition off;
- when performing welding work on a vehicle, the battery must be completely disconnected;
- before towing the vehicle, you must disconnect the connector from the ignition switch;
- it is prohibited to replace the distributor rotor with a rotor of a different type. The ignition advance angle is set by the ignition control unit, but it can be checked and adjusted as described earlier (see subsection 12.2.1.3), while it is necessary to disconnect the vacuum hose from the ignition control unit.
