Removal
1. Apply the parking brake to the vehicle and place chocks under the rear wheels.
2. Loosen the two bolts securing the rods to the toothed rack (see Fig. Steering mechanism). In this case, the car must stand on its wheels to avoid damage to the steering rack.
3. Loosen the wheel mounting bolts.
4. Raise and support the front of the vehicle.
5. Finally, loosen the mounting bolts and remove the wheel.
6. Loosen the nut securing the ball joint end.
7. Press the ball joint pin out of the steering arm. It is recommended to use a puller to do this.
8. Finally, loosen the mounting bolts and remove the rod or with the pressure plate.
9. To replace the tie rod end, loosen the lock nut and unscrew the end, counting the number of turns so that during assembly the end is set in the required position.
Inspection and defect detection of steering rod parts
1. Carefully inspect the steering rod. Worn and deformed rods cannot be repaired and must be replaced.
2. If the ball joint mudguard has cracks or the rubber has lost its elastic properties, replace the mudguard.
3. If the ball joint has noticeable radial and axial play (checked with the traction control installed on the vehicle) or the tip has play, the tip with the ball joint must be replaced.
Installation
1. Screw the tip onto the threaded coupling by the number of turns calculated during removal.
2. When replacing the steering rod, set the length of the new rod using a threaded coupling equal to the length of the old rod and secure with lock nuts.
3. Install the rod and new pressure plate onto the bracket and tighten the mounting bolts loosely.
4. Press the ball joint pin into the steering arm and tighten the new nut to 60 N·m (6.0 kgf·m).
5. Install the wheel and tighten the mounting bolts.
6. Lower the vehicle to the ground and finally tighten the wheel mounting bolts to a torque of 110 N·m (11.0 kgf·m).
7. Finally tighten the bolts securing the rods to the toothed rack to a torque of 60 N·m (6.0 kgf·m). Bend the tabs of the pressure plate.
8. Have the wheel alignment checked at a service station.
