Withdrawal
1. Apply the parking brake to the vehicle and chock the rear wheels.
2. Remove the windshield washer reservoir and set it aside without disconnecting the hose.
3. Raise and support the front of the vehicle.
4. Unscrew the mounting bolt and disconnect the steering damper from the bracket (steering without power steering).
5. Loosen the bolts securing the tie rods to the steering rack.
6. Remove the linkage from the steering mechanism by removing the bracket and pressure plate.
7. Loosen the bolt securing the coupling collar of the lower steering column shaft, move the clamp up and disconnect the lower shaft from the steering gear drive shaft.
8. Remove the steering column shaft seal by removing it from the hole in the front shield.
9. Drain the fluid from the tank and disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses from the valve body (power steering).
10. Loosen the mounting bolts on both sides and remove the steering mechanism from the vehicle by pulling it out through the right wheel well.
Installation
1. Install steering gear in reverse order.
2. Connect tie rods (cm. subsection 9.6), replace the pressure plate with a new one.
3. Finally tighten the clamp bolt to a torque of 25 Nm (2.5 kgf·m) after adjusting the clearance between the steering wheel cover and the steering column cover (cm. subsection 9.2). Tighten the left bolts of fastening of the crankcase of the steering mechanism with a torque of 20 Nm (2.0 kgf·m), and the right ones - with a moment of 25 N·m (2.5 kgf·m).
4. On models with power steering, the hose feed bolt is tightened to 40 Nm (4.0 kgf·m).
5. After installing the steering mechanism, check and, if necessary, adjust the toe-in of the front wheels at a workshop. On models with power steering, bleed the system.
