Removal
The steering rack is installed and removed together with the steering rod. Remove the front wheels. Unscrew the nut -1 - of the tie rod end pin -2- until it is flush with the thread of the pin. When loosening, if necessary, keep it from turning.
To protect the thread, leave the nut on the pin screwed in a few turns. Press the tie rod end out of the wheel bearing housing using a ball joint puller -T40010 A-. Then unscrew the nut.
Electromechanical steering mechanism with tie rods 1. Electromechanical steering with tie rods with a used amplifier -J500-. Repair; 2. Bolt. 80 Nm + turn 180°. Replace each time when removed; 3. Subframe; 4. The nut is pushed into the subframe. Replace each time when removed; 5. Steering intermediate shaft; 6. Bolt; 7. Wheel bearing housing; 8. Nut. 100 Nm. Replace every time removed
Make sure that both arms of the puller lever are parallel to each other at the moment of maximum force application; correct the position if necessary. Remove sound insulation. Unscrew the nuts -arrows- and lower the stabilizer. Remove the cross connection of the guy wires.
Risk of damage to chassis parts. Never lower the vehicle onto its wheels unless the attachment support, steering gear or subframe cross braces are properly installed. Supporting the vehicle on a subframe or cross stretchers of the subframe (for example, when using a rolling jack or the like.) not allowed! Unscrew the bolt -arrow-. Remove the intermediate steering shaft -1- from the steering gear -2-.
Disconnect plug connection -1-for vehicle signals (CAN-BUS and terminal 15) on the power steering control unit -J500-, release the lock and press the lock down. Disconnect email plug connection -2- for supply voltage (terminal 30) on the power steering control unit -J500-, to do this, loosen the lock -arrow- and press the release down.
Unscrew bolts -1,2-. Press the steering gear slightly to the side -arrow A- and pull it down -arrow B-.
Installation
Install in reverse order. In this case, tightening torques must be taken into account. Do not fully tighten both bolts, then tighten them. Installation of the stabilizer. Install a cross connection of the guy wires. When installing a new electromechanical steering gear, it is necessary to use the tester mode "Guided troubleshooting" run the program "Replacing the J 500 control unit". Adjust the wheel alignment angles.
Steering alignment
When centering the steering, only the "leveling" steering for subsequent work. You can accurately determine the center position of the steering wheel by turning the steering wheel using the computer to adjust the wheel alignment. If, when determining the average steering position, a deviation of the steering wheel is detected, it is necessary to check the steering and suspension parts for damage or deformation, and if necessary, replace the damaged parts. You should also check the symmetry of the tie rods.
