Removal
1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the steering wheel (see subsection 9.2).
3. Loosen the fastening of the steering column switches through the hole located at the bottom of the steering column switch housing. Remove the steering column switches from the steering column pipe, disconnecting the block with wires.
4. Remove the instrument cluster (see subsection 12.1.5.15).
5. Using a 3.5 mm drill, drill out the ignition switch (lock) housing mounting bolt with the cut-off head through the hole in the instrument cluster panel.
6. Move the rods away from the steering mechanism by removing the bracket and pressure plate.
7. Loosen the bolt securing the lower steering column shaft clamp, move the clamp upward and disconnect the lower shaft from the steering gear drive shaft.
8. Loosen the mounting screws and remove the lower shelf from the driver's side.
9. Remove the driver's footwell blower.
10. Loosen the clamp mounting bolt, disconnecting the steering column shaft from the steering gear drive shaft. On models with a steering column without power steering, first move the protective cover.
11. Unscrew the two nuts and remove the two bolts securing the steering column to the bracket.
12. Lower the steering column a little and remove the ignition switch housing, disconnecting the pads with wires from it.
13. Remove the steering column through the hole in the instrument panel.
Installation
1. Install the steering column in reverse order.
2. In this case, the upper and lower shafts of the steering column are compressed to the stop. To keep the shafts in this position, it is recommended to first remove the air blower for blowing the driver's feet.
3. Before connecting the steering column shaft to the drive pinion shaft of the steering mechanism, insert the key into the ignition switch and turn off the anti-theft device.
4. Bolt 17 of the clamp mount is tightened to a torque of 25 N·m (2.5 kgf·m), and two bolts 18 of the steering column mount are tightened to a torque of 35 N·m (3.5 kgf·m).
