Using the radio system
On the steering wheel are the controls for the elementary functions of the radio system.
Controls for elementary functions are mounted on the steering wheel panel of cars with a factory-equipped radio system. This allows the driver to be distracted as little as possible from driving while driving. Of course, it is also possible to control the radio, tape recorder/CD player and the corresponding buttons on the radio system directly. A detailed description can be found in the operating instructions for the radio system.
The following modes are activated by pressing the steering wheel buttons:
Key A:
- Radio: searches for a radio frequency in ascending order
- Cassette: fast forward
- CD: audio track run forward
Key B:
- Radio: searches for a radio frequency in descending order
- Cassette: fast rewind
- CD: audio track run backwards
C key: volume up
D key: volume down
E key: station selection keys (presetting) descending
F key: Station selection keys (presetting) ascending
The functions of the keys are determined by the currently enabled radio system mode. Using the E and F keys, you can sequentially turn on up to twelve stations. If the station selection keys are not programmed or the station is not received, under certain circumstances only noise will be heard.
Using the radio system and telephone
On the steering wheel are the controls for the elementary functions of the radio system and telephone.

- Voice control: end key
The functions of the keys are determined by the currently enabled radio system mode.
The run of subscriber numbers is carried out in alphabetical order by the names of subscribers, in ascending A—>Z or decreasing Z—>A. With a longer press of the A or B keys, a quick run of the subscriber numbers stored in the memory occurs.
Phone Instructions
After switching on the ignition or the phone and entering the PIN number, the SIM card memory is automatically read.
The reading process lasts, depending on the amount of data stored in your SIM card memory, from 15 to 60 seconds. At this time, the FIS display shows the message "BITTE WARTEN..." (please wait).
Phone function indication
The instrument cluster display can show the following phone functions:
- BITTE WARTEN - The process of reading SIM card memory data
- SIM EINSETZEN (install SIM) — There is no SIM card in the phone
- PIN EINGEBEN - No PIN entered yet
- KEIN SERVICE (lack of communication) - No connection to the telephone network
- ANRUF (call) — Incoming call. For indication additionally, alternately with indication "ANRUF", the caller's number can be displayed.
- NUMERBESETZT - Dialed number is busy
- TELEFON AUS - Phone turned off
- ANRUF AUFBAU (kit) — Establishing a connection
- KEINEINTRAGE (no messages) — There are no messages in the SIM card memory
- DATENRUF AKTIV (data call function) — Via infrared or serial interface call current information/fax messages.
Changing the language variant The telephone functions are displayed automatically in the language stored in the SIM card memory. As a rule, the German language on the maps of German companies providing network services. Changing the language variant is carried out through the menu "Telefoneinstellungen" (phone setup) — "Sprache" (language).

SOS distress signal and call for help
Telematics system (telematics is a unified system of telecommunications and informatics), along with the ability to conduct telephone conversations, has a number of additional security features. Under the cover is an SOS distress signal and technical assistance call.
Sending a distress signal (SOS) by pressing a key
- Press the lid to open.
- Press the SOS key.
Call for technical assistance
- Open the lid by pressing.
- Press the call button for technical assistance (Serviceruf).
When a distress call is made (SOS) Important information regarding the location and identification of your vehicle is sent to the Audi Assistance Central. In an emergency or dangerous situation, an SOS distress signal can be issued by pressing the SOS key. In addition, the SOS signal will sound automatically when the airbag or seat belt pretensioners are deployed.
Telephone
The phone is located in the center console or armrest.
Armrest installation
- It is possible to install the armrest in various fixed positions. Press button A and move the armrest completely down.
- Raise the armrest up, sequentially passing through the fixed positions, up to the desired one.
Opening the armrest cover
- The armrest cover is opened with handle B.
Removing the phone
- Release the phone from the holder by pressing the C key.
For reasons of comfort, as well as for the possibility of using the telephone by passengers in the rear seats, the armrest can also be installed in one of several fixed positions.

- Move armrest up to vertical position.
