Rear Parking Assistance

The parking assistance system warns of obstacles at the rear.

When reversing, the 4-channel device uses ultrasonic sensors to measure the distance to an obstacle. The sensors are located in the rear bumper.

Turning on

The parking aid is activated when reverse gear is engaged. This is confirmed by a short beep.

Reversing

The warning sound starts to sound starting from 1.60 m to the obstacle. As the distance to the obstacle decreases, the time pauses between sound pulses are reduced.

If the distance is less than 0.30 m, a continuous signal sounds. This means that you must stop reversing.

Operation of the trailer

When using a trailer, the parking aid is deactivated.

Device malfunction

If a warning signal sounds for 5 seconds when the ignition is switched on, this indicates a device malfunction. Have the malfunction rectified by an Audi dealer.

To ensure the parking assistance system works properly, keep the sensors clean and free of ice.

Attention
  • There are "dead" zones in which the sensors do not detect objects. Pay special attention to small children and animals, as they are not always recognized by the sensors - risk of accident.
  • The acoustic parking aid cannot replace the driver's attention. The driver remains responsible for parking and other similar maneuvers.

Caution: Objects such as the sight drawbar, thin varnished rods or fences are not recognized by the system under certain circumstances and may cause damage to the vehicle.

Front and rear parking assistance

The parking assistance system warns of obstacles in front and behind.

When moving in reverse or forward gear, the 8-channel device measures the distance to an obstacle using ultrasonic sensors. Four sensors are mounted in the front and rear bumpers to measure the distance (2 in the center, 2 on the sides).

The sensors begin to react when an obstacle is found in the distance:

Turning on

The parking aid is automatically activated when reverse gear is engaged. This is confirmed by a short audible signal.

The device can also be switched on manually by pressing the button on the central console. Switching on is also confirmed by a short sound signal. An additional LED lights up in the button.

Manual activation of the device is necessary when parking the car with the front bumper or when approaching an obstacle with the front bumper and you want to use the device.

Disconnection

The parking aid can be switched off manually using a button. However, this is not particularly necessary, as it switches off automatically at speeds above 15 km/h.

In addition, the device always switches off when the engine stops.

Signal tone

The driver is warned of the distance to an obstacle by means of acoustic signals from the front and rear acoustic sensors. The volume and pitch of the signals can be changed at the Audi dealer as desired.

Reversing

The reversing warning sound starts to sound when an obstacle is detected (the range of distances is given above). As the distance to the obstacle decreases, the time pauses between sound pulses are shortened.

If the distance is less than 0.30 m, a continuous signal sounds. This means that you must stop reversing.

Moving forward

The distance warning to an obstacle is the same as when reversing. However, the obstacle is detected at a shorter distance from the vehicle.

Maneuvering

When maneuvering, the audible signals are temporarily switched off if you change gear (for example, reverse/forward gear). However, as soon as the car starts moving, the warning signal will sound again.

Operation of the trailer

When using a trailer, the rear parking aid sensors are disabled. The front sensors remain in the working position.

Device malfunction

A continuous beep for about 5 seconds instead of a short beep when you engage reverse gear or switch on the device with a button indicates a system fault. Have the fault rectified by an Audi dealer. No acoustic signal when you try to switch on the device again indicates a fault.

To ensure the parking assistance system works properly, keep the sensors clean and free of ice.
