The parking brake is applied by moving the lever upward until it stops.

Releasing the parking brake
  • Pull the lever up slightly and simultaneously press the locking button -arrow-.
  • While holding the button down, lower the lever completely down.

Always tighten the parking brake lever fully to make it impossible to move the vehicle without having forgotten to release the parking brake.

When the parking brake is applied and the ignition is on, the handbrake indicator lamp comes on.

Caution. Ensure that the parking brake is fully released. A partially released parking brake can cause the rear brakes to overheat and thus adversely affect the function of the braking system - risk of accident!

Caution: After stopping the vehicle, always first apply the parking brake fully, then engage an additional gear on the manual transmission, or, if the vehicle has an automatic transmission, the parking lock "P".

Parking

To avoid unintentional movement of a parked vehicle, follow the rules below.
  • Stop the car using the foot brake pedal.
  • Apply the parking brake fully.
  • Turn off the engine.
  • Engage 1st gear of the manual transmission, and if there is an automatic transmission, engage the parking lock "P".

Additionally, when parking on inclines and slopes

Turn the steering wheel so that in case of an unintentional movement the car hits the curb.

Attention
  • No one should remain in a locked car - especially children, because the doors and windows cannot be opened from the inside. Locked doors prevent outside assistance from being provided to people in the car in an emergency - life-threatening!
  • Never leave children unattended in the car. Children may, for example, release the parking brake or turn off the gear and as a result the car will start moving - risk of accident!
