Using a wrench, unscrew the Torx 12 bolts (Fig. 14–1) securing the airbag, located on the sides at the rear of the steering wheel (Fig. 14–2).
Warning: Do not remove the steering wheel with the steering wheel spiral electrical connector disconnected.
Tilt back the airbag 15 (see Fig. 14–1), disconnect the electrical connector and remove the airbag.
Loosen bolts 8 and remove upper casing 1 of the steering column.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the steering wheel coil.
Unscrew nut (or bolt) 14 and remove steering wheel 13.
Pull the lower casing trim towards you and remove it.
On models with mechanical steering column adjustment, unscrew the bolt and remove the steering column adjustment knob 9.
Loosen the bolts and remove the lower casing 7 of the steering column.
On models with electric steering column adjustment, disconnect the electrical connector from the steering column adjustment control switch. Unscrew the 3 bolts securing the switch and remove it.
Installation
Make sure the front wheels are set in the straight ahead position.
Install the steering wheel and tighten the nut to 40 N·m. If the steering wheel is secured with a bolt, use a new bolt and tighten it to 60 N·m.
Check that the distance between the steering column covers and the steering wheel is 3-4.5 mm.
Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Connect the ground wire to the battery.
Turn on radio and enter the code into it.
Raise the power windows all the way up. Then press all power window switches again for at least 1 second to the closed position to activate the power window control unit.
Set the time on the clock.
