Table of contents: Removal the output shaft bearing ↓ Gear Locks - Removal and Installation ↓
1. Replacing the bearing housing will affect the installation of the crown wheel and gears (see Chapter 6, paragraph 1). To ensure proper installation, measurements must be taken before and after installing the new fastener. Shims of the appropriate thickness will need to be selected and installed between the new mechanism fastener and the gearbox housing to restore the original pinion alignment.
Removal the output shaft bearing
2. The bearing outer race can be driven out of the housing using a suitable drift, but installation of a new bearing and determination of the correct shim thickness must be performed by an Audi dealer.
Gear Locks - Removal and Installation
3. Unscrew the hinge bolt, remove the rear gear lever. Remove the pin from the rear gear shift rod, remove the rod from the housing.
4. Remove the 3/4 gear shift rod from the bearing housing, try to remove it with the small locking piston.
5. To remove the retainer plug from the top of the bearing housing, drill a 6 mm diameter hole in the plug, tighten the bolt, and use it to pull the plug out. Once the plug is removed, the spring and retainer can be pulled out.
6. The two locks on the box side are removed after the plugs have been removed. The lock, spring and bushings with large locking pistons can be removed.
7. Installation is carried out in reverse order. The correct position of the clamps and plungers is shown in Fig. 6.11.

Adjusting the transmission lever
8. It is not necessary to remove the gear shift rods to adjust the transmission lever.
9. Install the reverse gear and shaft, insert the selector link and the transfer lever.
10. Install the transmission lever bolt and gasket. Tighten the bolt until it touches the transmission lever while pushing the transmission lever in the direction of the arrow (Fig. 6.12).

11. Press the transmission lever away from the bolt, screw the bolt further.
12. Keeping the transmission arm in the same position, tighten the bolt and tighten to the tightening torque given in the Specifications. The transmission arm should now be set at the correct distance from the housing.
13. Gradually move the reverse gear shift rod towards the neck-thorn, check that the transmission mechanism moves freely in all positions.
14. If the transmission lever was adjusted without the shift rods, the reverse gear must be removed again before installing the rods.
