Main Gear Housing — Maintenance (Audi 80 B3)

1. Removal and disassembly of the differential and final drive assembly is not recommended.

2. The torque converter seal can be replaced as follows. Using the inspection holes in the side of the main gear housing, knock out the old seal with a hammer and a flat chisel (Fig. 7.8). Install the new seal and then carefully drive it in completely with a hammer and a metal pipe. Note that the seal is made of a very soft material and should not be cleaned with liquid solvents.
