Accelerator cable (087) — removal, installation and adjustment

Removal and installation

1. First, lift the front of the car and support it on axle stands.

2. Disconnect the ends of the cable from the accelerator pedal and the transmission downshift lever.

3. Unscrew the nut, remove the cover and return spring from the throttle body shaft.

4. Disconnect the cable and center stop from the throttle pulley.

5. Remove the brackets and disconnect the cable casings from the hangers.

6. Remove the cable through the partition and remove it from the engine compartment.

7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Adjust the cable as follows.

Adjustment

8. The adjustment will require the assistance of another person.

9. Place a 17mm long spacer under the pedal at the fuel injection control, and secure the pedal against the spacer.

10. Loosen the cable mounting nuts and remove the adjustment bracket.

11. Clamp the throttle pulley in the open position. Now move the pedal cable housing towards the pedal so that there is no gap, install the adjustment bracket near the suspension.

12. Move the transmission cable housing toward the transmission until you feel downward pressure, then tighten the mounting nuts.

13. Check that the throttle lever touches the idle speed limiter when the pedal is released. Press the pedal to the fully open throttle position (no kickdown) and check that the throttle lever contacts the full throttle stop. Press the pedal to the down position and check that the transmission downshift lever contacts the downshift stop, with the throttle spring under tension.
