2. Remove the center console as described in Section 11. Select position "P".
3. Unscrew the handle from the gear selector lever.
4. Remove the screws, lift the casing of the selector. Disconnect the wiring of the lamp and, if applicable, the traction relay of the lock.
5. Disconnect the wiring from the starter inhibitor switch and, on later models, from the starter inhibitor solenoid.
6. Remove the screws and take out the switch.
7. Reassembly is the reverse of the above. Adjust the switch as follows. On models prior to August 1988, select the "P" position, then rotate the hanger on the switch to the "P" position until the switch is located in the gearshift lever. On models from August 1988 onwards, use a 4 mm diameter drill bit or pin to secure the switch lever as shown in Fig. 7. 17. Move the selector lever to the "N" position, then install the switch so that the moving clip engages the gearshift lever. Tighten the screws, remove the drill bit or pin. After installing the switch, check that the engine can only be started in the "N" or "P" positions and that the reversing lights come on in the "R" position. If the switch does not operate correctly, minor adjustment within the elongated holes may be required.
