
1. The gearbox can be separated from the main gear housing, the regulator can also be removed, but disassembling the gearbox is not recommended, as this requires special tools and knowledge.
2. Place the gearbox on the bench, pull out the torque converter.
3. Remove the four nuts and washers that secure the gearbox to the final drive housing, remove the gearbox. Remove the O-ring and gasket.
4. The turbine shaft and pump shaft can be removed from the gearbox and examined. When examining the turbine shaft, check that the O-rings (Fig. 7.7) are properly seated and that the snap ring is correctly positioned in the groove of the slot. Note that the snap ring must always be installed when installing the turbine shaft, otherwise the needle bearing will be damaged.

5. The pump shaft and turbine shaft may be different lengths, so it is important to have the old shaft for comparison when receiving a new one.
6. When reassembling, make sure to install the gasket to the front end of the gearbox. Use a new gasket and O-ring. Make sure the pump shaft is inserted properly (see Chapter 4).
