Gas engine
Instruction. Diesel vehicles do not have an accelerator cable. Instead, an accelerator pedal position sensor is installed that controls the fuel pump.
Attention. The accelerator cable is sensitive to kinking and must be handled with extreme care during installation. A single slight bend can lead to subsequent breakage during operation. Therefore, cables that have been bent can no longer be installed on vehicles.
Press the accelerator pedal all the way down and lock it in this position, or have an assistant hold it down.
Check that the throttle lever rests against the maximum load limiter. Otherwise, adjust the accelerator cable.
Remove the retaining clip that secures the accelerator cable sheath to the bracket (see fig. 4A.12).
Move the accelerator cable sheath on the bracket until the throttle lever touches the maximum load limiter. In this position of the accelerator cable, secure the cable sheath with the retaining clip.
Release the accelerator pedal.
Additional adjustment on vehicles with automatic transmission
Disconnect the 2-pin electrical connector from the positive downshift switch (kick-down), located in front of the engine compartment.
Connect an ohmmeter to the electrical connector of the kick-down switch and measure the resistance, which should be infinity (see fig. 4A.13).
Slowly press the accelerator pedal. When the accelerator pedal approaches the stop, the resistance at the contacts of the Kick-down switch should abruptly decrease to 0 ohms.
Otherwise, re-adjust the accelerator cable or replace the faulty positive downshift switch (Kick-down).
Recheck the throttle cable adjustment and adjust if necessary.
