The fuel tank made of plastic is located under the bottom of the car behind the rear axle. The amount of fuel in the tank is displayed by the fuel gauge located in the instrument cluster. The fuel tank is ventilated by a closed ventilation system. Harmful gasoline vapors from the fuel tank ventilation are captured by the activated carbon accumulator.
Economy driving mode
The way you drive your car has a significant impact on fuel consumption.
- Drive off immediately after starting the engine, even in cold weather.
- For expected stops of more than 40 seconds, turn off the engine.
- Drive in the highest possible gear.
- Try to maintain a constant speed on the longest sections of the path possible, avoid high speeds. While driving, be prudent and do not brake unnecessarily.
- Do not carry useless additional cargo in the car, remove attachments from the car, such as a roof rack, as soon as possible.
- Constantly check the tire pressure, do not operate the car with low tire pressure.
Safety rules for working on the fuel system
Observe the following safety and hygiene regulations when working on the fuel system:
Safety instructions
- When working on the fuel system, do not use open flames, electric welding, or tools that may generate sparks. Make sure there is a charged fire extinguisher in the immediate vicinity of the workplace.
- Work on the fuel system must be carried out in a well-ventilated area, for which all windows and doors can be opened to create a draft.
- The fuel system is under pressure. When disconnecting system components, fuel can splatter, so use goggles to protect your eyes from fuel getting into them. If fuel comes into contact with skin, wash the area with plenty of water. Collect spilled fuel with a rag.
The hoses are attached to the pipelines with band clamps or clamping brackets. Clamping brackets are replaced with tape clamps during repairs. The use of clamping or screw clamps is not permitted. Special pliers are used for mounting tape clamps, for example, HAZET 798-5.
- Thoroughly clean the connections and their surroundings before disconnecting.
- Lay the removed parts on a clean surface and cover them with foil or paper. Do not use fibrous rags.
- Close open connections or plug them if repairs are to be made after some time.
- Install only clean parts. Remove spare parts from their packages just before installing them. Do not use parts that arrived unpackaged (e.g. in tool boxes, etc.).
- With an open fuel system, if possible, do not work with compressed air. Try not to move the car.
- Do not use silicone based sealants. The residues of silicone components sucked in by the engine do not burn out in the engine and damage the lambda sensor.
