The gear shift lever is located in the gear selector housing. Before replacing the gear shift drive cables, the above housing must be removed.
Removal
1. 1.8L engines: Remove the transmission selector drive cables from the manual transmission, refer to the subsection Removal, installation and checking the clutch.

2. Remove the gear shift boot upwards (arrows in the illustration) and remove it through the handle.

3. Loosen the clamp (arrow on the illustration) and remove the handle together with the cover.
4. Remove the noise damper from the shift lever cutout.
5. Disconnect the exhaust system between the downpipe and the center muffler. Loosen the bolts and lower the crossbar for fastening the muffler to the bottom, while referring to the subsection Removal and installation of the exhaust system.
6. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the heat shield under the gear shift lever.

7. Unscrew the nuts (indicated by arrows) fastenings near the gearshift lever.
8. Unscrew the 2 mounting bolts from the bottom of the vehicle near the gear selector housing.
9. Lower the body and remove it together with the rods back.
Installation
1. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Additionally, the following should be kept in mind.
2. If the seal between the body and the bottom of the vehicle is damaged, replace it.
3. Secure the body to the bottom with a torque of 25 Nm.
4. Install the exhaust system and adjust it, refer to the subsection Removal and installation of the exhaust system.
5. Finally, adjust the shift drive, referring to the subsection Disassembling the drive shaft.
