Gear selector (Multitronic)
R (parking). In this position, the drive pinion in the differential gearbox is locked. To do this, a special tooth engages with a wheel that is located on the drive pinion of the differential and is equipped with cams. In this position, the wheels are locked and do not rotate. When parking, the selector should be set to the "P" position - of course, this can be done when the car is stationary. In order to move the selector out of this position, you need to press the brake pedal.
R (reverse gear). When this gear is engaged, the vehicle must be stationary and the engine must be idling. If reverse gear is mistakenly engaged while driving forward, a safety valve prevents this switching from a certain speed.
N (neutral position). In this position, there is no connection between the engine and the drive wheels. Unlike the "P" position, in this case the drive wheels are not locked, since all clutches are disengaged and no pair of wheels is held. In order to move the selector out of this position, you need to press the brake pedal.
D (drive). In this position, hydraulic pressure acts on the forward clutch. This transmits the engine torque to the drive wheels. If the vehicle moves forward slightly, this can be prevented by lightly braking. When accelerating in this position, normal operation is ensured with all gears.
Selector lock. To set the selector to the "R" or "P" position, and to switch from the "P" position, you must press the lock button, this button is located on the side of the selector. The engine can only be started when the selector is in the "P" or "N" position. If the selector is in the "R" or "O" position, starting is prevented by a safety switch on the gearbox.
Ignition key lock. The ignition key can only be removed when the selector is in the park position P.
