When engaging a gear, a distinction must be made between lateral movement (gear selection) the gearshift lever into neutral and the actual gearshift. Both movements in a car with a 1.6-liter engine are transmitted to the manual transmission via rods.
Models with 1.8 L engines have two cables instead of rods to transmit the gear shift lever movements.
After removing the manual transmission or disassembling the gear shift drive, it must be readjusted.
Warning: Lubricate all bearings and friction surfaces with AUDI grease G 052 142 A2.
