Removal
Disconnect the ground wire from the battery with the ignition off.
Unlock the gear selector and shift cable lock as follows: Press the sliding sleeve "1" in the direction of "arrow 2" until it stops. Turn the sliding sleeve "1" in the direction of "arrow 3" until it stops so that the sleeve locks. Cable "4" must move in the lock. The gear selector cable is shown in the figure. Unlocking the gear shift cable is carried out in the same way. Pull the gear shift cable and gear selector cable out of the cable clamps. Remove gear shift cable "1" and gear selector cable "2" from counter support "4" as follows: Turn the release ring "3" in the direction of "arrow A" until it stops and pull the cable in the direction of "arrow B" from counter support "4". Release both cables to the rear.
Lift the cover of the shift lever "1" in the direction of the "arrow" from the center console. Turn the cover upwards over the handle.
Cut the "arrow" clamp and remove the gearshift lever handle together with the casing. Remove the rear center console assembly.
Loosen the "arrow" mounting bolts of the gearshift mechanism housing.
Remove both lock washers "1" and safety clips "2". Press the shift cable "arrow" with a screwdriver and remove the shift mechanism housing from the cable drives. Raise the car.
Press the boot "1" from below using the "arrow" screwdriver. Pull both cables downwards.
Installation
Installation in reverse order.
Replace both clamping elements as they were damaged during removal. Connect clamping elements "1" and clip into boot "2". Make sure that there is sufficient silicone grease "G 000 405 A2" on the clamping elements and cables in area "A".
Push the rubber bushing in and out several times in the "direction of the arrow" so that the silicone grease "G 000 405 A2" is evenly distributed on the cables and clamping elements. "A" silicone grease "G 000 405 A2".
Turn the release ring "1" in the direction of arrow A until it stops and remove the cable in the direction of arrow B from the counter support. Release the release ring "1" again and make sure that both cables are fixed in the counter support. Additionally, secure the gear shift cable to the cable bracket located on the counter support.
Install the gearshift housing and tighten the mounting bolts to 9 Nm. Install the center console. Adjust the gearshift mechanism.
