1. Extend the shift shaft and spring.
2. Before removing the rear bushing, remove the rear oil seal, then remove the bushing from the front end of the casing.
3. Insert a new bushing into the back of the casing and drive it down to the level of the casting using a block of wood.
4. Install a new gland, with the open end of the insulation facing in.
5. The procedure for removing and installing the front hub is the same. Except that there is no oil seal in front, and the location of the bushing must also be noted.
6. Lubricate the bushings and oil seal lug with gear oil before installing the shift rod.
