Resetting the Service indicator of maintenance intervals is performed using a special device VAG-1551, which is connected using an electrical connector located at the bottom left of the steering wheel.
If the maintenance was not carried out at an AUDI service centre, the service indicator must be reset to its original position using the trip odometer and clock setting buttons in the following order.
With the ignition off, press and hold down the trip meter reset button 2. (Fig. 1.1).

With the button pressed, turn on the ignition without starting the engine, and release the setting button. The daily mileage indicator 3 (Fig. 1.1) will display the inscription "SERVISE OEL".
Pull out the clock setting button 1 (Fig. 1.1) and hold it until the inscription appears "SERVISE OEL". Then three dashes "- - -" will appear on the indicator.
Press the 2 daily mileage button again and release it, the service indicator will switch to the mode "SERVISE INSP".
Pull out the clock setting button 1 (Fig. 1.1) and hold it until the indication disappears "SERVISE INSP" and instead of it three dashes "- - -" will appear.
Turn off the ignition.
Cars from 2000 model year
Attention: For vehicles with "Longlife-Service" the service interval indication must be reset using a special device VAG-1551 or VAS-5051. Otherwise, the "flexible" Longlife service notification will switch to strict service intervals.
Switching to strict maintenance intervals
With the daily mileage button 2 pressed (Fig. 1.1), turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
The indicator of appearance has an inscription "SERVISE IN???? Km" and accordingly "SERVISE!" after releasing the button.
Press the clock setting button 1 (Fig. 1.1) and hold it until the inscription "SERVISE IN???? Km" accordingly "SERVISE!" will not go out. The indicator will show the message "SERVISE IN 15000 Km"
Turn off the ignition.
