1. These procedures require a VAS50xx/60xx diagnostic tool connected to the vehicle's diagnostic connector (see Chapter 5).
Resetting the maintenance indicator
2. Connect the diagnostic tool and select the vehicle model. From the list of functions, select "Service work".
3. On models before 2008, select "J285-Reset ESI" and follow the instructions given.
Note: ESI stands for Extended Service Intervals.
4. On models from 2009, select "Change, fixed interval ＜--＞ LongLife" and follow the instructions given.
Checking the volume of soot deposits
5. Connect the diagnostic tool and select the vehicle model. From the list of functions, select "Engine electronics＞Read measured values" and read the volume of soot deposits in block 104, display area No. 1.
6. For 3.0 TDI // 4.2 TDI engines, the maximum permissible volume of soot deposits is 0.46 // 0.63 l, respectively. If the specified value is not reached, the vehicle can be used for another 30,000 km. Otherwise, the diesel particulate filter should be replaced and the soot volume should be set to 0.
