7. The radiator is covered at the top with a casing that can be removed upwards (see illustration).
19.7. Removing the upper radiator shroud.
On later models, the lower coolant hose must be released before removing the cover.
Checking and cleaning the air intake chamber
Note: Leaves, pine needles and other debris accumulating in the air intake chamber can disrupt the outflow of water from it during heavy rain or when washing the car, which can lead to water getting into the interior. Therefore, it is necessary to periodically check the patency of the drainage holes of the air intake chamber and, if necessary, clean them.
8. Remove the air intake chamber cover (see paragraph 6).
9. Press the clamps (1 and 2 in the illustration) ECM and pull it forward out of the holder (3).
19.9. ECM fasteners.
10. Without disconnecting the electrical wiring, position the ECM as shown in the illustration.
19.10. Position of the removed ECM.
11. Check if there is any dirt in the air intake chamber. Check the drainage holes for cleanliness (1 in the illustrations), looking from top to bottom in the direction of the arrows.
19.11a. Right drainage hole (between the hydraulic modulator and the brake lines).
19.11b. Left drainage hole (between the brake fluid reservoir and the electronic unit).
Remove dirt if necessary.
12. Remove large dirt from the air intake chamber and drainage holes (1 in the illustration) flexible gripping tool.
19.12. Drainage holes.
Fine dirt and sediment can be removed, for example, using a thin water hose or the VAG 1538 pressure cleaning gun and the VAG 1538/2 flexible nylon probe.
Cleaning and lubricating panoramic roof parts
13. Before performing any procedures, turn on the ignition and fully open both panoramic roof sunshades. To prevent dirt from falling into the interior, keep a cloth under the appropriate area of the panoramic roof.
14. For cleaning and lubrication you will need special tools VAS6621.
Cleaning and lubricating the guide strips of the front glass panel
15. Open the front glass panel completely.
16. Insert the VAS 6621 tool into the rear of the guide (1 in the illustration), turn 90° (2), move to the middle of the guide opening (3) and turn 90° (4), and then remove the device upwards (5).
19.16. Cleaning the rear part of the guide.
Remove any collected dirt and remaining grease from the center of the guide using a lint-free cloth. If necessary, use a vacuum cleaner to remove sand and dust from the guide. Repeat this procedure as many times as necessary.
17. Clean the front part of the guide in the same way (see illustration).
19.17. Cleaning the front part of the guide.
