3.0 TDI models
1. Remove the decorative engine cover (see Section 19).
2. Unhook the clamps (1 in the illustration), disconnect the MAF sensor connector (3) and remove the bolts (2) that secure it.

3. Disconnect the tube from the air cleaner housing (see illustration), as described in paragraph 4.

4. To separate the tube, press it with a screwdriver (With in the illustration) retaining ring (1) from the flange (3) of the tube.

5. Press the lid (1 in the illustration) air purifier from its housing (3).

6. Pull out the lid (1 in the illustration) air cleaner upwards, removing the retaining tabs (A) from the grooves (B).

7. Remove the filter element (And in the illustration).

8. Clean the air cleaner housing and make sure its drainage tube is clear. When blowing out dirt, do not allow it to enter the air duct. Make sure the air intake is free of leaves and other debris. Install a new filter element.
6. Fit the air cleaner cover retaining tabs into the slots, then lower the cover onto the air cleaner. Secure the air cleaner cover with the clamps, tighten the MAF sensor fastener to 3 Nm and connect its connector.
7. Connect the tube. To do this, slide the retaining ring (1 in illustration 16.4) onto the flange (3) of the tube until it is noticeably fixed.
8. Install the decorative engine cover.
4.2 TDI models: right side
9. Remove the decorative engine cover (see Section 19).
10. Disconnect the front differential ventilation hose from the air cleaner cover (see illustration).

11. Disconnect the connector (3 in the illustration) mAF sensor and disconnect the hose (1) from it.

Move the coolant hose (arrow) away from the air cleaner.
12. Using a screwdriver, press the retaining ring (1 in the illustration) forward from the connection. Press the ring (2) in the direction of the arrows and remove the ventilation hose (3) from the air cleaner housing.

13. Release the fasteners (2 in illustration 16.11) and remove the air cleaner cover. Remove the filter element and clean the air cleaner housing (see paragraph 8) and install a new filter element.
14. Further installation is carried out in reverse order.
4.2 TDI models: left side
15. Remove the decorative engine cover (see Section 19).
16. Disconnect the connector (by analogy with 3 in illustration 16.11) mAF sensor #2 and disconnect the hose (1) from it. Release the clips (2) and remove the air cleaner cover.
17. Remove the filter element and clean the air cleaner housing (see paragraph 8) and install a new filter element.
18. Further installation is carried out in reverse order.
