Front crankshaft oil seal
1. Remove toothed drive belt and crankshaft sprocket (see chapter 6).
2. The oil seal can be replaced without removing the oil pump by punching or drilling two diagonal small holes in it. Screw the self-tapping screws into the holes and, pulling the screws with pliers, remove the oil seal.
3. Wrap the end of the crankshaft with adhesive tape so as not to damage the new oil seal. Dip the new oil seal in the engine oil and drive it into the oil pump housing with a block of wood or socket. Make sure the seal is oriented with the flat side facing out. If a deep groove has formed in the seal-contact area at the end of the shaft, install the new seal a little deeper so that its sealing lip rests on the unworn part of the shaft (see illustrations).
4. Remove the adhesive tape.
5. Install toothed drive belt and crankshaft sprocket (see chapter 6).
Rear crankshaft oil seal (flywheel)
6. The stuffing box is built into the casing and cannot be replaced separately. Remove flywheel/drive plate first (see Chapter 13), then remove the pallet (see chapter 15).
7. Turn off mounting bolts and remove a casing together with an epiploon from the block of cylinders (see illustration). Remove the gasket from the dowel pins on the block.
8. Clean the surfaces of the block and crankshaft.
9. Install a new oil seal housing gasket on the cylinder block (see illustration).
10. The new stuffing box has a protective sleeve that is installed on the end of the shaft before installing the stuffing box/jacket assembly. Place the casing assembly on the end of the crankshaft and slide it onto the dowel pins (see illustration).
11. Carefully remove the protective sleeve, making sure that the sealing lips of the oil seal fit correctly on the crankshaft (see illustration).
12. Install the bolts and tighten them with the tightening torque specified in the Specifications.
13. Install the pallet (Chapter 15) and flywheel/drive plate (Chapter 13).
