Removal and installation the drive disc and crankshaft seals (Audi Q7-4L-D)

1. The installation details of the drive disc and crankshaft seals are shown in the illustrations.

Replacing the front oil seal

2. Remove the crankshaft pulley (see Section 6).

3. Align the inner part of the T40019 puller flush with the outer part, and then secure it with the knurled bolt. Lubricate the threaded head of the puller and, applying strong pressure, screw it into the seal as far as possible (see illustration).



Loosen the knurled bolt and rotate the inside of the puller to pull the seal out of the sealing flange. Clamp the puller in a vice and remove the oil seal from it with pliers.

4. Clean the mating and sealing surfaces. Slide the oil seal (1 in the illustration) onto the T40048/1 sleeve through the T40048/2 cone and remove the cone.





5. Install the bushing with the oil seal on the crankshaft and slide the oil seal (1 in the illustration) into the front sealing flange.



Do not remove the bushing yet, you will need it when pressing on the oil seal.

6. Install the T40048/4 bushing onto the crankshaft to a depth of 5 mm and tighten the M8 x 55 bolts by hand (see illustration).



Then, alternately tightening the bolts by 1/2 turn, press the oil seal until it stops.

7. Remove the tools and install the crankshaft pulley (see Section 6).

Removal and installation the front sealing flange

8. Disconnect the negative battery cable (see Chapter 5).

9. Drain the coolant (see Chapter 3).

10. Remove the drive belt (see Section 6).



11. Remove the right coolant pipe (9 in illustration 7.1a) and the crankshaft pulley (see Section 6).

12. Remove the plug from the intermediate roller of the drive belt (4 in illustration 7.1a), unscrew the bolt (see illustration) and remove the roller from the sealing flange.



13. If present, remove the heat shield by unscrewing its bolts (see illustration).

Note: When installing, tighten the bolts to 9 Nm.

14. Unscrew the bolts securing the front sealing flange, first pull off its right side (1 in the illustration), and then the left side (2).





Remove the seal from the flange.

15. Using a plastic drill brush, remove any remaining sealant from the flange grooves and from the mating surfaces of the flange/cylinder block/upper oil pan. Clean mating surfaces from oil and grease. Install sealing elements into the flange (2 and 4 in the illustration) and sealing rings (1 and 3).



Fill the flange groove with sealant (arrow) so that it protrudes by 1.5-2.0 mm.

16. Within 5 minutes of applying the sealant, install the flange and tighten its bolts diagonally in several passes, with a final torque of 9 Nm.

17. Install the front oil seal (see subsection above).

18. Install the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal.

Removal and installation the drive disk

19. Remove AT (see Chapter 6), or remove the engine and separate it from the AT (see Section 4).

20. Mark the position of the drive disc relative to the crankshaft.

21. Lock the drive disk from turning using tool No. 10-201 (see illustration), unscrew the disk mounting bolts and remove it together with the washers.





22. Installation is carried out in reverse order. Do not mix up the installation locations of the washers (see illustration 7.1b). Use new bolts to secure the drive disc. To prevent the disc from turning while tightening the bolts, turn tool #10-201 over.

Replacing the rear oil seal

23. Remove the drive disc (see subsection above).

24. Remove the rear oil seal using tool T20143/2 (see illustration).



25. Drill a hole with a diameter of 8 mm in the mounting sleeve T10122/2 (2 in the illustration), using the drive disc washer (1) as a template.



26. Clean working and sealing surfaces. Slide the oil seal (And in the illustration) onto the T10122/2 sleeve through the T10122/1 cone and remove the cone.





27. Install the T10122/2 bushing together with the oil seal (1 in the illustration) on the crankshaft.



28. Press the oil seal evenly using the T10122/3 support sleeve (see illustration). The seal must be flush all the way around.





29. Install the drive disk.
