2. Replacing the front/rear oil seals and their holders on the 1.8 l engine is done in the same way as on the 2.0 MPI engine (see Section 11).
Note: The radiator frame service position is described in Section 30 and the engine top cover fastening fasteners are shown in the illustration 29.9.
3. Removal and installation of the flywheel of models with a manual transmission or CVT on a 1.8 l engine is carried out in the same way as on a 2.0 MPI engine (see Section 12).
4. The following describes the removal of the drive disk of models with AT.
5. Remove AT (see Chapter 7) or engine (see Section 17).
6. Mark the position of the drive disc relative to the engine.
7. Secure the drive disc from turning using the VW558 tool (see illustration), securing it with a bolt (2). Place two nuts (1) between the device and the bolt.
33.7. Fixing the drive disk
8. Loosen the drive disk fastener and remove it. Remove the compensation washer located behind the drive disk.
9. Install the wire disc with the slotted washer (1 in the illustration).
Note: The protrusion (arrow) must face the torque converter.
33.9. Drive Disc Installation Details
10. Tighten at least three old bolts to 30 Nm and measure the distance through three holes (and in the illustration) to the cylinder block. Calculate the average value: it should be 18.9+20.5 mm. If this value is not reached, remove the drive disc and remove (or install) equalizing washer (2 in illustration 23.9), then measure the distance again with the fastener tightened to 30 Nm.
33.10. Determining the installation distance(s)
11. Tighten the new drive disc fastener to 60 Nm, then tighten it to an angle of 90°.
12. Install the AT or engine.
