Removal

Loosen the generator mounting bolts, loosen and remove the generator drive belt.

Remove the crankshaft pulley.

Depending on the engine model, remove the timing belt cover or the upper and lower timing belt covers.

Turn the crankshaft to the TDC position of the compression stroke of the piston of the 1st cylinder, placing a mark on the camshaft pulley at the level of the upper plane of the cylinder head gasket (see photo).

Loosen the tension roller axle mounting nut.

Remove the camshaft timing belt.

Installation

Note: Do not turn the camshaft when any of the pistons is at TDC.

Set the camshaft to the TDC position of the ignition stroke of the piston of the 1st cylinder, placing a mark on the camshaft pulley at the level of the upper plane of the cylinder head gasket.

Install the crankshaft pulley.

Turn the intermediate shaft toothed pulley so as to align the mark on it with the TDC mark of the 1st cylinder piston on the crankshaft pulley.

Place the timing belt on the pulleys.

Adjust the tension of the toothed belt by turning the tension roller on the axis in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the toothed belt. Check the tension of the toothed belt by turning it with your thumb and forefinger 90° around its axis in the middle of the branch between the pulleys of the camshaft and intermediate shafts. The belt should not turn more than 90°.

Turn the crankshaft two revolutions and check that the timing belt tension is adjusted correctly.

Remove the crankshaft pulley.

Depending on the engine model, install the timing belt cover or the lower and upper timing belt covers.

Install the crankshaft pulley.

Install the generator drive belt and adjust its tension.

Tighten the generator mounting bolts.

Check and, if necessary, adjust the ignition timing.

Check and, if necessary, adjust the ignition timing.

Check and, if necessary, adjust the ignition timing.
