Withdrawal
Loosen the alternator mounting bolts, loosen and remove the alternator drive belt.
Remove the crankshaft pulley.
Depending on the engine model, remove the protective cover or the upper and lower toothed belt guards.
Turn the crankshaft to the TDC position on the compression stroke of the 1st cylinder, placing a mark on the camshaft pulley at the level of the upper plane of the cylinder head gasket (see photo).
Loosen the nut securing the idler axle.
Remove the camshaft timing belt.
Installation
Note. Do not turn the camshaft when any of the pistons is at TDC.
Set the camshaft to the TDC position of the ignition stroke of the piston of the 1st cylinder, putting a mark on the camshaft pulley not level with the upper plane of the cylinder head gasket.
Install the crankshaft pulley.
Rotate the countershaft sprocket so that the mark on it aligns with the TDC mark on the 1st cylinder piston on the crankshaft pulley.
Fit the camshaft timing belt onto the pulleys.
Adjust the tension of the toothed belt by turning the tension roller on the axis in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the toothed belt Check the tension of the toothed belt by turning the thumb and forefinger 90°around its axis in the middle of the branch between the camshaft and intermediate shaft pulleys. The belt must not rotate more than 90°.
Rotate the crankshaft two turns and check that the toothed belt tension is correctly adjusted.
Remove the crankshaft pulley.
Depending on the engine model, install the toothed belt guard or lower and upper toothed belt guards.
Install the crankshaft pulley.
Put on the alternator drive belt and adjust its tension.
Tighten the alternator mounting bolts.
Check and, if necessary, adjust the ignition timing.
