Removal
1. Remove the top plastic engine cover (where is there), then disconnect the crankcase breather hose and oil separator hoses from the camshaft cover (1T engines) (see illustration) or bypass valve (3D engine). On 1T engines the bypass valve is mounted in the camshaft cover. If necessary, on AAS engines remove the bypass valve and rubber sealing ring from the cover.

2. Remove the plugs (where are there), then unscrew and remove the three camshaft cover mounting nuts and remove the seals and flange bushings (see illustrations).

3. Lift the cover off the cylinder head (see illustration). If this does not work, do not force the cover away from the unit, but instead go around it, tapping lightly with a mallet.

4. Remove the camshaft cover gasket. Inspect the gasket carefully and replace it if it is dirty or damaged (see illustration).

5. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and camshaft cover, removing all traces of oil and old gasket. Be careful not to damage the surfaces.
Installation
6. Install the camshaft cover in the reverse order of removal, paying attention to the following:
a) Make sure the gasket is correctly positioned on the cylinder head and be careful not to displace it when installing the camshaft cover.
b) Tighten the camshaft cover retaining nuts to the torque specified in the Specifications.
