1. The power steering mechanism uses hydraulic oil stored in a reservoir mounted on the bulkhead of the engine compartment.
2. The power steering pump is also the central hydraulic pump for all other hydraulic systems on vehicles with anti-lock brakes and self-levelling suspension. If the hydraulic connections of any of these systems have been broken, bleed the system as follows.
3. If the system has been recently charged and the oil level in the reservoir has not fallen below the MIN·mark, set the steering to straight ahead, the vehicle must be unloaded, start the engine. Add hydraulic oil to the reservoir up to the MAX mark, install the cap and stop the engine.
4. If the system is being refilled after a repair, or if the level has fallen below the MIN·mark, remove the oil strainer from the cap and wash it in gasoline. Dry the mesh filter and install it on the lid.
5. Jack up the front of the car so that the wheels are just off the ground.
6. Fill the reservoir with oil up to the MAX mark and, with the engine off, quickly turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times.
7. Add to the MAX mark again.
8. Start the engine, continue adding oil until the level remains constant.
9. Shut off the engine, check the oil level, install the filler cap and lower the vehicle.
