Warning: Do not hold the steering wheel fully turned in either direction for more than five seconds. This can damage the steering pump.
2. The reservoir of the power steering system is located in the engine compartment and has a screw cap with a measuring probe built into it.
3. Park your vehicle on level ground and apply the parking brake.
Oil level can be checked cold or hot (starting from +50°C). This describes the cold test. Pay attention to the notes given at the end of the Section if the oil level must be checked when it is warm.
4. The car must not be warm, the engine must not be running. The front wheels must be straight.
5. Loosen the tank cap with a screwdriver (arrow on accompanying illustration). To do this, insert the screwdriver shaft into the groove of the plug.
6. Wipe the level indicator under the cap with a clean cloth.
7. Screw the plug in by hand and then unscrew it again. The oil level on the gauge must be within the range of 2 mm above or below the MIN·mark.
Warning: As a general rule, the oil level should not drop. If the oil level drops, the leak must be repaired at an AUDI workshop. If the oil level is above the specified range, the oil must be pumped out.
8. Only new oil must be added, since even minor contamination can lead to failures in the operation of the hydraulic system.
9. Close the plug with a screwdriver.
Note on checking with the engine warmed up to operating temperature:
Warm up the car by doing a test drive. The oil should warm up to a temperature of about +50°C. Check the oil level with the engine running. In this case, the front wheels must be straight. The oil level with the cap screwed in must be between the MIN and MAX marks on the other side of the gauge.
