1. Check the power steering fluid level periodically to avoid vehicle handling problems such as damage to the steering pump. Follow these steps:.

Warning: Do not hold the steering wheel fully turned in either direction for more than five seconds. This may damage the steering pump.

2. The power steering system reservoir is located in the engine compartment and has a screw-on cap with a measuring probe built into it.

3. Park the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.

The oil level can be checked when the engine is cold or warm (starting from +50°C). This describes the check in a cold state. Please note the notes at the end of the Section if the oil level is to be checked in a warm state.

4. The car should not be warmed up, the engine should not be running. The front wheels should be straight.

5. Unscrew the tank cap using a screwdriver (arrow on the accompanying illustration). To do this, insert the screwdriver rod into the groove of the plug.

6. Wipe the level indicator under the cover with a clean cloth.

6. Wipe the level indicator under the cover with a clean cloth.

7. Screw the plug in and out by hand. The oil level on the gauge should be within 2 mm above or below the MIN marking.

Warning: As a rule, the oil level should not drop. If the oil level drops, the leak must be repaired at an AUDI service station. If the oil level is above the specified range, the oil must be pumped out.

8. Only new oil must be added, since even minor contamination can lead to failures in the hydraulic system.

9. Tighten the plug using a screwdriver.

Note on testing with the engine warmed up to operating temperature:

Warm up the car by taking a test drive. The oil should warm up to a temperature of about +50°C. Check the oil level with the engine running. The front wheels should be straight. The oil level with the cap screwed in should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the other side of the gauge.
